A visit to Granada is a must.
It is a great city,
dominated by the stunning Alhambra Palace. Please make sure you book your tickets in advance for this, especially in spring and autumn. To really see all there is to see here you could do with 2 days, however a full day pass will give you time to get round all the main buildings and see the fabulous Generalife Gardens.
The Albaycin, or Arab Quarter, is a
maze of narrow, cobbled streets, full of little shops selling teas, leather goods and clothes. There are good opportunities to shop in the city and fantastic
places to eat.
The Sacromonte Caves area is
full of music at night and the chance to see traditional flamenco. (Ask around to find the best places as some can
be a bit pricey and tourist-driven). It’s a
lovely place to just wander around in the afternoon. There is a small museum
there, showing the traditional set up of the old cave houses, which is quite
interesting.
The Cathedral, in the centre of the city, is impressive and well
worth a visit.
On rainy days the Science Museum is great place to
entertain the kids.
There is also a very
popular Water Park just outside the
city.
On Sundays (if there isn’t a fiesta going on), near the bus station, there is a huge market, selling everything from kitchenware to wood carvings, leather goods, bags and clothing, to food, herbs and spices. (Hang onto your wallet though!)
